Thomas Justice
Makers Mark
Not the best punch in the world!
Thomas Justice, son of William Justice I, 1764 or 1765. He registered his first mark 1761 with a pellet and from 1766 the pellet was back, it is logical to assume these tongs date from 1764/1765. He was free of the Merchant Taylors Company on 7 Sept 1748 and dead before 1790( Grimwade p755). These tongs are extremely delicate workmanship, and have had a small repair to one arm, the other arm has a matching flaw that may have been there since manufacture. The bow carries a wedding monogram M over T*B that is done by a much less highly skilled workman.

Small Repair/Flaw on far arm just visible

Wedding Monogram to bow of lower quality workmanship than the tongs
