Peter and William Bateman

Peter and William registered marks as a pair from 1805 to 1815 after which it was William alone who carried on the family business.

Makers Mark Just about readable

These tongs have been rather over polished during their life and the makers mark is only just readable, as is the hallmark. There are also a couple of flaws in the silver, which at first glance look like repairs. However if it is the repairs were done before the bright cut engraving as this is totally unaffected. They are typical "Bateman Style" tongs, weigh 1 1/8 ounces and are 5 3/4 inches long. There is a blank cartouche to the bow and they are hall marked for 1807.
