A Victorian Silversmith.
Makers marks and Hallmarks
These tongs are very unusual in several respects, firstly they are very smal at only 3 3/4 inches long and weighing 5/8 of an ounce; secondly they have right angle arms, whose design is pierced to resemble the Georgian cast style and finally they have a sprung hinge at the top rather than the more conventional bow. They are in good condition with no damage or repairs and the spring hinge is in excellent working order. They are fully hallmarked for London 1883, the duty mark and date letter being on one arm the lion and leopards head on the other. There is a blazing sun on both sides of the central hinge but no monograms.
